About the Role

The Tax Accountant is responsible for overseeing the Company's tax compliance, statutory reporting, regulatory requirements, and audit coordination. This role ensures timely and accurate tax filings, compliance with government regulations, and implementation of effective controls to mitigate tax and regulatory risks. 

The position serves as the primary point person for tax-related matters and works closely with Accounting, Finance, Legal, external auditors, tax consultants, and government agencies. 

Key Responsibilities 

Tax Compliance 

  • Prepare, review, and ensure timely filing of all national and local tax returns. 
  • Ensure accurate computation and remittance of VAT, Withholding Taxes, Income Taxes, Documentary Stamp Taxes, and other applicable taxes. 
  • Maintain tax compliance calendars and monitor filing deadlines. 
  • Review accounting transactions to ensure proper tax treatment and compliance with applicable tax laws. 
  • Monitor tax exposures and recommend corrective actions when necessary. 
  • Ensure compliance with BIR regulations, revenue issuances, and other tax-related requirements. 

Regulatory Compliance 

  • Ensure compliance with BIR, SEC, LGU, and other government regulatory requirements. 
  • Prepare and submit statutory reports and regulatory filings accurately and on time. 
  • Monitor changes in tax laws, regulations, and government issuances and assess their impact on business operations. 
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to strengthen compliance controls. 

Audit and Assessment Management 

  • Lead the preparation of schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documents required during tax audits and examinations. 
  • Coordinate directly with BIR examiners, external auditors, tax consultants, and government agencies. 
  • Prepare responses to tax notices, assessments, and compliance inquiries. 
  • Monitor and facilitate the resolution and closure of audit findings and tax assessments. 

Accounting and Financial Reporting Support 

  • Review tax-related journal entries, reconciliations, and account schedules. 
  • Ensure tax balances are properly recorded and reconciled. 
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing activities relating to tax and compliance matters. 
  • Support management reporting requirements involving taxation and regulatory compliance. 

Internal Controls and Process Improvement 

  • Develop and maintain tax compliance procedures, documentation standards, and internal controls. 
  • Conduct periodic compliance reviews to identify risks and process gaps. 
  • Recommend and implement improvements to strengthen tax governance and reduce compliance risks. 
  • Ensure proper documentation, filing, and retention of tax and regulatory records. 

Team Supervision 

  • Supervise and review the work of tax and compliance staff. 
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and training on taxation and regulatory matters. 
  • Ensure timely completion of departmental deliverables and compliance obligations. 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy. 
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred. 
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in Taxation and Regulatory Compliance. 
  • Strong working knowledge of Philippine taxation, BIR regulations, SEC compliance, and statutory reporting requirements. 
  • Experience handling BIR audits, Letters of Authority (LOA), tax assessments, tax mapping, and government examinations. 
  • Experience coordinating with external auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory agencies. 
  • Experience in a multi-company, group, or shared services environment is an advantage. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting or ERP systems.

Preferred Candidate Profile 

We are seeking a hands-on tax professional who has actual experience managing tax audits, assessments, and regulatory compliance matters. Candidates whose experience is limited primarily to tax return preparation and filing without exposure to BIR examinations, LOAs, tax assessments, or audit coordination may not be suitable for this role.
